The man reached into his bag again and pulled out another metal implement, which he held up before him, turning it around to inspect it.

The huge metal hook with its wickedly pointed end made the small amount of hope she’d found in the noise he was making, drain away as she stared at it. He was just a couple of metres away from her, and without any warning, he turned and advanced upon her with the hook in hand.

“No. No, please, don’t,” she said in panic, her words muffled and incomprehensible through the gag. “Please, no. No…” she begged as fresh tears fell down her face.

He reached her and dropped the hook to the floor, just within his reach.

“Oh, thank you, thank you…” she began, only to come up short as he pulled a Stanley knife from his pocket. “Oh god.”

He began grabbing her clothes and yanking at them before using the knife to cut them off of her. At first, she thought he was going to cut her, but as he started to disrobe her, she stopped resisting, preferring not to get cut by the razor-sharp knife.

She watched in fear as he went about his business, looking and hoping for some a chance for her to free herself from her bondage. As he moved to her legs and began to cut off her trousers and underwear, she tried pulling her foot back and thrusting it out at him, trying to kick him in the head.

He saw it coming though and slapped it away just as it caught him, cutting her leg with the knife in the process. She screamed as he finished his work and finally had her naked.

The man grabbed her by the throat.

“Please, no, don’t do this. I’ll do anything. Anything you want, just name it.”

He ignored her pleas and forced her down on her back, before placing his knee on the side of her head. Tiny stones bit into her temple and scalp as he put more and more pressure on her skull. She tried to wiggle out from under him, to fight him, but her strength was gone.

Her heart raced as she thought about the hook and what he might be about to do with it. As she did, she heard metal scrape over concrete as the man shifted his weight on top of her. She cried out. It felt like he was crushing her skull.

Straining to turn her head under his weight, she managed to look up and caught sight of him raising the hook up above him.

She sucked in a ragged breath of air and tensed, waiting for the inevitable pain. Everything dropped into slow motion as the choices that led her to this moment flashed before her. Could she have done more research? Could she have made a better choice?

He swung the hook down.
